Thel was honored at two dinners in 1999 for her over 40 years of volunteering at the Scarborough General Hospital, Scarborough, Ontario. She was one of four volunteers so honored. From the Hansard 1400 number 215 (the official recording of the Ontario Legislature); Thel and the three other women were recognized, in the Legislature, by their Member of Legislature, Mr. John Cannis, Liberal Member for Scarborough Centre. Thel married William George Harrison at Knox United Church, Agincourt, Ontario, Canada on May 3, 2003. George was born July 22, 1920 in Toronto. He attended Kew Beach Public School and Eastern High School of Commerce in Toronto. They lived at Thel's home in Scarborough. They travelled to Newfoundland, Labrador and St Pierre & Miquelon in August 2003, England in October 2003 and to Portugal in March 2004.
