It was a major blow when Jack died suddenly at age 57 in 1936 however Mabel and her family successfully carried on the farm. She sold the farm to her son Robert Allen in 1945. She spent six months with her brother and sister-in law Harry and Gertrude Fallis in California, USA in 1945. A "Shivaree was held one evening on the Thomson farm for Mabel when she married Robert (Bob) Hannon in 1945. (Bob was born December 11, 1886 in Proton Township, Grey County, Ontario, Canada. (His birth registration 501191, microfilm MS030 reel 6, Archives of Ontario, was not registered until 29 September 1948, sworn to by his brother Harry T.S. Hannon at Dundalk, Ontario). Bob was one of the founders of the McCord Co-op and operated a trucking service for a few years. He was active in church work both in McCord and Moose Jaw.
When Bob remarried in 1945 he became semi-retired and moved to Moose Jaw. He operated his farm there, enjoying his spare time curling in the winter months.
