Olice Helen Gauley
Funeral services for Mrs. Olive Helen Gauley, late of Bengough, Saskatchewan, who passed away on February 10, 1991, at the age of 99 years, was held Wednesday, February 13, 1991 at 2:00 p.m. in Knox United Church in Bengough, Sask. Jennifer Uhryniw, ordained minister, presided. Interment took place in Bengough Municipal Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jim Sabin, Paul Mazenc, Claude Tessier, Gary Shaver, Don Shaver and Rick Shaver. Memorials were received for Knox United Church Memorial Fund. Ross Funeral Services Ltd. was in care of arrangements.
Olice Gauley was born on November 16, 1891 in Hoople, North Dakota, daughter of Mark and Helen Hewitt. The family moved to Buford, North Dakota in 1902. They moved to the Bengough district in 1912. Olive married Robert Gauley in 1918. They ranched south of Hardy until 1950. Upon retirement they moved to Bengough. Olive quickly became involved in the community. She belonged to the U.C.W. and the Jolly 17 Club. She remained in her home until she was nearly 90 years old. She was a hard worker, enjoyed family, gardening, visiting, travelling and various hobbies such as quilting and crocheting. She moved into the Centennial Home where she remained until her passing.
Predeceased by her husband Robert in 1957, her parents, Mark and Helen Hewitt, two sisters, Alice (Charles) Akers and Jean (Jay) Shaver, two brothers, Norman and Ralph, three brothers-in-law, Charles (Gwen) Bryan, Jay (Jean) Shaver and Charles (Alice) Akers, two sons-in-law Alfred (Esther) Sabin and Dan (Dorothy) Charuk and one daughter-in-law Laura (Sherman) Gauley; she is survived by one sister Gwen Bryan of Vancouver Island, B.C., her sons Sherman (Fran) of Westlake Village, Calif., Robert (Adelaide) of Comox, B.C., her daughters Esther (Alfred) Sabin of Bengough and Dorothy (Dan) Charuk of Edmonton, Alta., eight grandchildren: Jim (Saga) Sabin, Ron Sabin, Joanne (Paul) Mazenc, Lorna (Claude) Tessier, Jeffery (Gwenda) Gauley, Mark (Dale) Gauley, Harvey Gauley and Wesley Gauley; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
