- Grew up on the farm and was educated at Stoney Creek School and in Neepawa, Manitoba, Canada. Was listed in the 1901 Canada Census, Manitoba, District 8 MacDonald, sub-district E4, Langford, page 4, Film T6433. He enlisted with the Fort Garry Horse (Manitoba) during WWI, Regimental Number 2147767. He and his horse travelled to Montreal by train and then by troopship to Britain. He did not see action, spending the duration of the war in Wales. After service to his country, he returned to Stoney Creek and succeeded his father on the farm in 1920. After his marriage to Frances, they lived on the farm until 1940 when they moved to Neepawa, into the home built by William and Mary Thomson in 1920. Was an active participant in all events that took place in the community and church. Was an avid sportsman, especially baseball and curling. He and his nephew, "Nero", went on many hunting and fishing trips. In 1940 Harvey was appointed Secretary Treasurer for Rural Municipality of Langford, a position made available by the retirement of his father-in-law. The same year, Harvey was appointed Secretary Treasurer of the Beautiful Plains Agriculture Society. He was also a Justice of the Peace. He worked these positions until his passing in 1960. The family had a cottage at Clear Lake. John's funeral service was held in Knox Presbyterian Church, Neepawa, Rev. David Smith officiating. Harvey is buried in Lot 13, Block 5, Range 11B, Riverview Cemetery, Neepawa.
