Dorothy went to Nova Scotia by train in 1932 and Nathan Woodworth and Dorothy were married in Nathans parent's home in Wolfville by Rev. George Ernest. Were living in Kentville, Nova Scotia in 1936. Moved to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in 1940. Was living in Yarmouth in 1948 when her mother died. After 1945, Dorothy became receptionist for the medical clinic until she retired in the fifties. Then they owned and operated Eaton's Cottages and Motel in Hebron, Nova Scotia until the mid sixties. Moved to Lakeside Drive, Yarmouth and in the seventies, retired to Centennial Drive in Port Williams, Nova Scotia. Dorothy had a triple bypass in Halifax in 1977 and took up golf in 1979. In 1980 they moved to Tideways (independent living for seniors) in Wolfville. Was living in Wolfville in 1994 when her sister Edna died. Dorothy died at her home, suddenly, of a massive heart attack. Born in Raymond, Muskoka, Ont., she was a daughter of the late Alexander W. and Mary Ann (Thomson) Edwards. For a number of years, while residing in Yarmouth, she was employed at a local medical center. She was a member of Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club and the Anglican Church. Surviving are a daughter, Margaret Ann (Mrs. William Parker), Wolfville; sisters, Robena Parsons, Burks Falls, Ont.; Beatrice Wurm, Magnatawana, Ont.; grandchildren, Derek, Waterloo, Ont.; Heather Parker McMaster, Truro; David, Barcelona, Spain; two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Nathan Woodworth; brothers Sydney, Wakeman, William; sisters, Janet, Ellen, Violet, Edna. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home Ltd., Wolfville. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. John's Anglican Church, Wolfville, Canon Douglas Hergett and Canon C.R. Elliott officiating. Married at the home of Thomas Dunn by Rev John Gray. Witness, Robert Thomson of Scarborough and Jane Lorimer of Orillia, Ontario, married 29 December 1869. The Northern Lights, Orillia newspaper, Friday 31 December 1869 reported on page 2 "Married: At the residence of the bride's father, on Wednesday, the 29th of December, by the Rev. John Gray. Mr James Thomson farmer to Margaret, daughter of Thomas Dunn, of the Township of Orillia." James owned a farm in Medonte Township, Simcoe County, Ontario (assume he sold it to his brother George). On the 3 April 1873 (registered 10 April 1873) James Thomson and his brother Robert Thomson purchased from John Blain for $2,600, part of Lots 10 & 11, Concession 2 and part of Lots 10 & 11, Concession 3 containing the former Dallas Grist Mill, Saw Mill and Mill Pond. On 17 December 1873 (registered 31 December 1873), James sold for $1.300 his half share of the mill property to his brother Robert. (Archives of Ontario Abstracts to Deeds microfilm GSU178869). On 17 December 1873, (registered 31 December 1873) James purchased W1/2 Lot 12, Concession 2, (100 acres) South Orillia Township, Simcoe County from Thomas Dunn (his father-in-law) for $2,000. Was a Merchant in partnership with Mr. Joseph Dunn. When his brother Robert died in 1879, James took over Robert's Grist Mill and raised Robert's son, Duncan Cameron after age 14. James was involved with his brother Archibald in arranging for Archibald being appointed Guardian of their brother, Robert's five infant children. At Public Auction on 12 January 1883 (registered 13 February 1883), James purchased the former Dallas Grist Mill and Saw Mill including the Mill Pond, part of Lots 10 & 11, Concession 2 and part of Lots 10 & 11, Concession 3, South Orillia Township, Simcoe County, that had been part of the real estate property of his late brother Robert, for $5,000 from a Power of Sale of James Johnston, mortgage holder on the property. James took a $2,000 mortgage from James Johnston at the time of the purchase. On 11 September 1899 (registered 30 September 1899) James sold 14 acres of the mill property to Thomas Dunn and his son Alexander L. Dunn. James Thomson and his family lived in a house, The Miller's House" known as 245 Westmount Drive South, Orillia. James appears to have received an honourary degree as he used to sign his name followed by "B.A." James enjoyed reading books on religion and he wrote treatises on the subject defending his viewpoints (descendants have a copy of one of his writings on the teachings of the Church of the Latter Day Saints. Was a gentleman of South Orillia Township who died of Pernicious Anaenmia and heart weakness, suffered for 6 months, under the care of J.N. Harvie. "Mr. Chris Thomson of O'Sullivan Corner, Scarboro, was here attending the funeral of his cousin, the late James Thomson. While in town, he was the guest of his nephew Mr. D. Thomson, Front Street." The Weekly Times Orillia dated August 13, 1908 reported: (Archives of Ontario microfilm N39 Reel 47) THOMSON - At South Orillia on August 9, James Thomson aged 65 years 5 months. "The Late James Thomson Very general surprise and regret was expressed when it became known that James Thomson, of "Mill Hill" had passed away early Sunday morning. For some time deceased's health had been failing, but as he had only just turned sixty five years of age it was hoped that he would be able to shake off the anaemia which had attacked him. Mr. Thomson was born at Langholm, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, and had been a resident of South Orillia for about forty years. His first mercantile enterprise was the old water power gristmill near the homestead. This mill was operated by his brother, the late Robert Thomson. Upon his death James bought the mill and continued the business. In 1872 he entered into partnership with Joseph Dunn, of this town, as flour and feed merchants, and opened a store on the site now occupied by Frost & Co. and Jos. Tiffin. The firm of Thomson & Dunn had a lease on the mill and continued the business for about twenty years, when Mr. Thomson retired. Messrs. Thomson and Dunn continued together, however, and jointly owned up to the time of Mr. Thomson's death the brick store building where they were so long in business. Mr. Thomson is survived by his widow, and leaves two sons and one daughter. Prof. David Thomson, who recently left to take a post graduate course in Germany. Mr. Thomas Thomson, who is in Alberta, and Mrs. C. S. Harvie, South Orillia. He is also survived by three brothers and two sisters, William, South Orillia; Archie, of Ardtrea; George, of Eady; Mrs. Dan Walker, Eady and Mrs. Simon Thomson, South Orillia. For two or three years Mr. Thomson was a member of the Town Council. He was a man of great literary tastes, and was exceptionally well informed on current topics. He was a kindly Christian gentleman, and his death leaves a vacancy in a very large circle of friends. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. Dr. Grant and Rev. Mr. MacGregor pastors of the Presbyterian Church of which deceased had been a member for many years. Six of his nephews acted as pall-bearers, and laid to rest in the Orillia Cemetery one whose memory will be long cherished. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Real Estate consisted of part of Lot 10 concession 3, South Orillia Township, part of Lots 1, 2, & 3 west side of Front Street and east side of Matchedash Street, Town of Orillia and part Lot 4 south side of Mississaga Street, Town of Orillia. All household furniture, personal effects and chattels in and about his household in South Orillia Township went to his dear wife Margaret. The household property including the land on the south side of the Ridgeway and buildings there on to be held by his wife until her natural death. His Life Insurance was split $1,000.00 to daughter Nellie and the balance divided between daughter Nellie and sons David and Thomas with Thomas' portion held until he was age 40 but Thomas was to receive the yearly interest from the invested money. James Thomson, son of nephew Duncan C. Thomson received $100.00. The balance of the estate was to be held, invested and rented. Wife to receive $25.00 a month during her life. Upon her death, the estate was to be disposed of and divided equally between his children but son Thomas was not to get his until age 40. In the 1851 Scottish Census, was listed as an 18 year old agricultural labourer, unmarried, born in Middlebie, Dumfriesshire, living at Nether Knock, Westerkirk Parish, Dumfriesshire. George Thomson was a gardner in Georgefield, Scotland. Five children, Jane, William, Elizabeth, David and Janet were born in Scotland. The family came to Canada in 1868 (according to the 1901 Canada Census) and settled in Medonte Township, Ontario, Canada where Margaret Ann and Christian Little were born. Two and one half years later the family moved to Oro Township, Ontario where Archibald, Mary Isabella and Georgina were born. Four years later, the family moved back to Medonte Township and bought the farm they had formerly rented. The Orillia Times dated February 17, 1916 (Archives of Ontario microfilm N39 Reel 57) reported: "The Late George Thomson Eady, Feb. 14, - Again we have to chronicle the death of an old and respected pioneer in the person of Mr. Geo. Thomson, who passed peacefully away after a short illness, due to old age, on Saturday evening, February 5. He lived at the old homestead at Eady with his son Robert, and was in his 84th year. The deceased is survived by a family of five sons and nine daughters, but his wife predeceased him fourteen years. The daughters and sons are: Mrs. James Russell, Mrs. Hiram Wood, Alberta; Mrs. A. DeHart, Barrie; Mrs. John Rumble, Hillsdale; Mrs. Jno. Graham, Mrs. Arthur Moffitt, Eady and Misses Georgina, Agnes and Margaret, at home; David and Jack of Alberta; Archie, of Orillia, and William and Robert, of Eady. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon to St. George's burying ground, Fair Valley. Rev. Mr. Smith, Presbyterian minister, Jarratt, conducting the service. The pallbearers were four sons and two sons-in-law: Messrs. William, Robert, Jack and Archie Thomson, John Graham and Albert DeHart. The funeral will leave the family residence Lot 9, Concession 11, Medonte on Friday June 30 at 2 standard time, for service at St. George's Church. Interment Fair Valley Cemetery. The Orillia Packet and Times dated July 6, 1933 reported: "The funeral of the late Mrs. Dan Walker was held in Fairvalley cemetery on Friday at 2. The church was filled with friends who had come to show their respect for one whom they had learned to love. Her christian life won for her the respect of all who knew her. Mrs. Walker leaves four sons and three daughters, Mrs. George Overend, Mrs. Neil Mathieson, Mrs. Frank Rix, Coldwater; Messrs Wilfred and Archie Walker, Coldwater; Messrs. Married James Eric Gronlund in 1952. They had five children. Ann lived in a custom designed house trailer in Surrey, British Columbia while James worked on construction sites such as Kitimat, Campbell River, Revelstoke, Hazleton, Portage Mountain Dam. In 1962 they built a house in Coquitlam, British Columbia, the house and lot costing $16,000. Ann and James divorced in 1976. In 1989 Ann travelled with her brother Ralph and sister-in-law May to Borneo. She travelled with them to Australia in 1990 and was with them in Sweden in 1997 when her mother died. Ann inherited a collection of photographs, letters and genealogical information from her grandmother Eliza Ann and her mother Susan Audrey which she generously shared with Wayne Thomson for this document. When it was completed, Mark climbed on the ball of the steeple and waved his hat. The family moved to Mulmur Township, Dufferin County, Ontario, to a fruit farm where they had ducks, geese and 2 log houses. Mark purchased land at Grafton, North Dakota, USA in 1882 and near Hoople N.D. in 1886 (from Sherman Gauley research in Land Records Office at Grafton N.D.). They had a house/store in Hoople on the Red River. Was a carpenter and hardware storekeeper in Hoople, then homesteaded at Buford, N.D. The family moved from Hoople to Buford, N.D. on June 9, 1902. They also lived in Grand Forks and Park River, N.D. Homesteaded SE Section 9 Township 4 Range 22 West 2 Meridian and NE 4-4-22 W2 and NW 3-4-22 W2 at Maniska in the Bengough area of Saskatchewan, Canada, October 15, 1912. Mark, son Ralph and daughter Olive came to Canada that fall with a hayrack loaded with furniture, machinery, and household effects which Olive drove, Ralph drove a democrat and they brought six horses and eight cows. There was only a 10 x 12 tar roofed shack with no floor in it. They build a sod barn, dug a well, put up some hay and sodded part of the shack. They had to cut holes in the ice to water the cattle. In 1913, Mark returned to North Dakota, sold the farm, six mares and a black stallion named Pharoh and brought wife Helen and daughters Jean and Gwenny to Saskatchewan in October (Alice and Norman stayed in N.D.). Jean and Gwenny rode horses and Mark and Helen rode in a wagon. Jean and Gwenny slept in a tent after they arrived at the homestead. They built a sod shack that fall. The walls were several feet thick and plastered on the inside with a natural potter's clay from the near Eagle Butte, which was white and very hard. There were two bedrooms and one (or two) other rooms. It was warm in winter and cool in summer. In 1918, lightning struck the barn and cattle shed, killing sixteen horses, a colt, a young Percheron stallion belonging to Bob Gauley, the barn, cattle shed, the loft full of hay, a fanning mill, and tools burned. He operated his very large ranch until 1932 when he retired to Regina, Saskatchewan. Mark accompanied his brother Roland, from Pelly, Saskatchewan to Toronto, Ontario to visit his sister, Mrs. James Higgins whom he had not seen in forty five years. Three days after arriving he took ill with pneumonia and passed away within a week at his sisters home, 82 Durie Street. His tombstone stated he died at age 81 years, 33 days. Alfred Hewitt, eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hewitt, of Mulmur Township, passed away after a short illness at the home of his sister, Mrs. James Higgins, 82 Durie street, Toronto on Tuesday, June 26th. Interment took place in Shelburne Cemetery, Thursday, June 28. The late Mr. Hewitt came from Regina, accompanied by his brother, Roland Hewitt, of Pelly, Sask. to pay his sister, whom he had not seen in forty-five years, a visit. Three days after his arrival he took ill with pneumonia and passed away within a week. He came here expecting to be able to visit in the old neighbourhoods which had been so familiar to him in his early life. He was born on May 24th, 1853, in Egremont Township, near Mount Forest, the town which was named by his grandfather R. Cholner, an early settler there. He received his education in the schools there, then he moved to the Mulmur Township, Dufferin County, thence to Hoople, North Dakota, where he married Helen Thomson, formerly of Harriston, Ont. He conducted a hardware business there for some years, giving this up later to go to Burford, N. Dakota, June 9, 1902 to live on a homestead. He moved to Bengough, Sask. October 15, 1912, where he bought a very large ranch which he worked until two years ago, when he retired to live in Regina. He led a very active life, having possession of all his facilities until the time of his death in his eighty-second year. His wife predeceased him five years ago. There remain to mourn his lose four daughters, Mrs. Chas. Akers (Berford, North Dakota), Mrs. J. Shaver (Bengough, Sask.), Mrs. Robert Gauley (Roan Mine, Sask.), Mrs. Chas Bryan (795 Nassau St., Winnipeg, Man.); one son, Norman L. Hewitt (Chicago, Ill.); three brothers, Richard Hewitt (Ardath, Sask.), Roland and Llewellyn (Pelly, Sask.), and one sister, Mrs. Jas. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 3, at 2 p.m. from Park Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. L.R. Agew. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. E.
