Many years earlier, relatives of his had settled in the County of York and for a considerable time one of them was a prominent member and Secretary of the Ontario Board of Agriculture and Arts. After taking a farm in South Orillia, he married a sister of the present Reeve of Orillia and Matchedash, and brought up a large family. Though subject for several years to ailments which precluded great length of days, he provided for the future and he has left a fertile farm on which but a year ago he had built a substantial and commodious residence. His neighbourly kindness and sterling good sense made him known and liked by a large circle of friends. He leaves a widow, three sons and four daughters".
