Robert signed his Attestation Papers on 12 April 1916 in Regina, Saskatchewan, when he joined the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force. Address was Duval, Saskatchewan; next of kin Mrs. Annie Baird, mother; born 16 October 1888 in Park River, North Dakota, USA; trade, farmer; age 27 years 7 months; height 5 feet 8 inches; complexion fair; eyes blue; hair light brown; religion Presbyterian. Robert Jackson Baird was a Private, Regimental Number 907768, B Company, 102nd Canadian Battalion, Force: Army, Unit: Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment). Killed in action in World War I, shot in the head by machine gun bullet while crossing No Man's Land on Vimy Ridge. He died instantly. Robert is buried in Grave 26, Row C, Plot 1, Canadian Cemetery 2, Pas de Calais, France (near Neuville-St Vaast). A wooden marker over his grave was replaced with a stone monument by the Imperial War Graves Commission. His name is on the Battalion Monument erected on the ridge. There is also a memorial stone in Lumsden Cemetery, Lumsden, Saskatchewan erected by his family. In 1909 broke additional 30 acres and had 60 acres in crop. In 1910 broke additional 50 acres and had 90 acres in crop. In 1908 & 1909 had 4 horses, in 1910 had 5 horses. In 1911 had a frame house 10' X 18', $50, a frame stable 16' X 24', $80, a 14' X 16' granary $60. Application signed and sworn 21 April 1911 in Nokonia (?), Sask., Land Agent recommendation 27 April 1911 in Regina, Sask., Accepted in Ottawa 3 May 1911. Sworn statements by William Swai and S.E. Retired from working in 1953 to raise her family. Lived in Palmerston, Toronto, Collingwood 1944-1946 and then at 1548 Indian Grove, Port Credit, Ontario since 1946. Clark - Bridge (May 27, 1944) A pretty wedding was solemnized at the home of the bride's parents, when Marion Frances, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bridge was united in marriage to William John Clark of Collingwood, son of Mrs. Clark of Toronto and the late Mr. George Clark of Sintaluta, Sask. The ceremony took place at 3:00 p.m. o'clock with Rev. K.H. Palmer officiating in a double ring ceremony. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a suit of pale pink silk jersey with pearls. She was attended by Miss Jean Bridge attired in a rose street length frock. The groomsman was Mr. E. Burge of Toronto. A buffet lunch followed the ceremony.
